Basketball world champion Dennis Schröder would like to carry the flag at the Olympics in Paris. A teammate is in favor of it.

Basketball world champion Andreas Obst would support the choice of Welcome Dennis Schröder as flag bearer of the German Olympic team.

“His sporting achievements are beyond question. But beyond that, in times when racism is unfortunately so present, it would be a cool statement. It would show that Germany is diverse and cosmopolitan,” said the 27-year-old FC Bayern Munich professional in an interview with “Sport Bild”. The 30-year-old Schröder had repeatedly taken a public stance on the flag bearer issue. Before the games in Paris, the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) will select five women and five men from the Olympic team. In July, the flag bearer will be chosen in a public vote. The Summer Games in Paris begin on July 26 and end on August 11. The national basketball team will begin its Olympic preparations in Munich on June 30 with all of the World Cup heroes from Manila. 16 players will be taking part in the training camp, including the twelve world champions. It is the first reunion since the historic World Cup title in September 2023. At the Olympic tournament with twelve teams, the German selection will face Japan (July 27), the winner of the qualifying tournament in Latvia (July 30) and host France (August 2) in Group B.
