Champions League winner Telekom Baskets Bonn has reached the playoff semi-finals of the basketball Bundesliga and is an opponent of MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg. The winner of the main round won against the Niners Chemnitz in the third quarter-final game with 89:83 (54:42) and clearly won the series best-of-five with 3:0.

Favorit Bonn had some problems with the strong Chemnitzers at home. The hosts, coached by Rodrigo Pastore, who played for Bonn for a year in 1999, put up a good fight (28:26/11th minute). Once again, the Rhinelanders could rely on TJ Shorts and Tyson Ward: The two Americans led the Baskets to a 54:42 lead at the break.

Kevin Yebo and Kevin Weidemann kept bringing Chemnitz closer after the break and didn’t let Bonn move away. Just under a minute before the end, Weidemann was able to reduce the deficit to 83:87 with a successful throw from distance. The Baskets did not let the success be taken away. The winner’s best shooter was Shorts with 20 points. Weidemann scored 19 points for the Niners.

ratiopharm Ulm and defending champion Alba Berlin will fight for the last place in the semifinals on Wednesday (8.30 p.m. / Magentasport). The Ulm surprisingly lead in the series with 2:1. Opponent in the last four is cup winner FC Bayern Munich.
