Basketball BBL: Munich vs. Ulm – live ticker – semifinals, 2nd game – 2022/2023 playoffs

  • 19

    21:19

Andrea Trinchieri takes a time-out due to some attacks that weren’t to his liking. There’s not that much reason for that though, his team came back strong and are clearly the better team in this section.

  • 17

    21:13

Ulm only scored six points in the second half and there are just a little less than four minutes left. That’s proof enough for the increasingly stronger defense of the men from the Isar with poor throwing quality at the same time.

  • 15

    21:09

Freddie Gillespie grabs Bayern’s first offensive rebound of the game and can convert energetically right away. The home side are gradually getting closer, while the Swabians are finding it increasingly difficult. Now it’s Giffey from Outside who shortens it even further.

  • 14

    21:07

Thomas Klepeisz shoots from outside, then grabs the rebound and plays to dos Santos, who misses the next throw. The men in the black jerseys are missing a few chances for a higher lead.

  • 13.

    21:04

Once again, the guests fouled with the shot clock running out. This enables Bayern to keep making additional attempts from actually hopeless situations. They really aren’t being clever there.

  • 11.

    21:00

Fedor Žugić steals the ball, makes contact in transition and wants to put the ball in with a foul. Until then, he actually does everything right, but misplaces the layup. To make matters worse, he also throws away both free throws.

    Conclusion 1st quarter:
The guests continue where they left off on Sunday. In the meantime, they even led 2:12 before the hosts got into the game better and shortened it. Yago dos Santos converted two difficult threes early on, Andreas Obst did the same. All in all, Ulm looks like the better team again in the first half.

    End of 1st quarter

  • 10

    20:55

The home side could be reminded of the last game. The young Spaniard Juan Núñez is already involved in six points in the first round. The backcourt of the guests works!

  • 8th.

    20:52

Now Coach Gavel has to take time out! He didn’t like some defensive sequences at all, especially Winston makes them a headache. But even in attack, the last two or three ball possessions were no longer made good decisions. So the break comes as anything but a surprise.

  • 8th.

    20:50

Characteristic of Bayern’s start is that Giffey kicks the heel into the side when trying to drive. In the first quarter, Munich definitely have problems with ball losses again.

  • 6.

    20:44

Karim Jallow takes off! The German international flies through the zone and stuffs the ball in. What a great start to this game 2 in the series!

  • 5.

    20:43

Yago dos Santos is incredibly hot! The line of three is too close for him, because he does it again from much further behind. On the other hand, however, Obst is squirming around the screen doing what he does best, sinking triples.

  • 4.

    20:42

Freddie Gillespie makes an exclamation point! In the zone, he lets an opponent get out and then vigorously hammers the ball through the trap. That could be an important wake-up call for players and fans of the third-placed team.

  • 3.

    20:40

Time out Munich! Robin Christen sinks the next three and the home side have no idea what is happening to them. On the defensive, the guests are so aggressive and close to the man that Bayern can’t think of anything. Let’s see if Trinchieri can give her a hand during this break.

  • 3.

    20:38

The guests set off like the fire brigade! Yago dos Santos converted ice cold from more than two steps behind the line of three. The hall is noisy, there seem to be some in the hall again who are on par with Anton Gavel’s men.

  • 2.

    20:36

Thomas Klepeisz gets the ball with five seconds left and defends tightly. With strong handles and a stepback, the man from Ulm makes room and lives up to his reputation as a sniper.

  • 1.

    20:35

As usual, Jallow is in transition immediately after the tip and pulls the first foul for two free throws on the way to the basket.

    game start

  • 20:24

When asked about the good game in the first game, coach Anton Gavel sees parallels to the series against Alba Berlin: “Congratulations to our players on this first step. When we were six or seven points behind in the second half, we still didn’t give up and answered correctly. Defensively we’ve upped the ante and created better throws up front. As in the series before it, it’s only the first game. We still remember exactly what happened back then in game two.”

  • 20:22

Andreas Obst is aware of the importance of the lost game: “I think the game was a wake-up call for us, that mustn’t happen to us again.” When asked what needs to go better, he replies: “We have to play even more physically this time , we really have to fight back and we mustn’t let our aggressiveness upset us in a phase like this.”

  • 20:18

Corey Walden is back in the matchday squad. The playmaker, who missed the first game of the series due to a cold, is needed enormously. Because without him, it was difficult for the backcourt to disrupt Ulm’s build-up and not let them get rolling. With Walden, Trinchieri has another option to contain the circles of dos Santos and Núñez. Another factor today could also be Karim Jallow, who made a few fouls in transition, but was still only 0/5 from the field.

  • 20:13

The home side are under pressure. If they lose the game again today, they need to win both games in Ulm to have a chance of progressing. The Swabians, on the other hand, are in a comfortable situation thanks to their victory last Sunday. In twelve years of playoffs, Munich only lost the opening game once when they had home advantage themselves. In this series they were finally able to prevail against Alba Berlin with 3:2. Is that a good omen?

  • 20:05

Game 1 went to Ratiopharm Ulm in front of an opposing backdrop with an outstanding performance. Responsible for this were the well-known Caboclo and dos Santos, with plenty of support from the highly talented Núñez. At Bayern, especially later in the game, hardly anything came together offensively, so 69 points is an underground value for them and it would be surprising if this result wasn’t surpassed today. However, it lived up to expectations, as quite a few had suspected that Munich might lack the energy to hold their own against Ulm after the long season. The same finally happened to the Berliners in the first round of the playoffs.
