Basic child security: argue, the children deserve it – opinion

The youngest are our future. Everyone agrees with this sentence, which is as banal as it is correct. But what is he worth to this society? The traffic light coalition must finally pull this out.

Children are our future. This sentence is often used when politicians or heads of associations talk benevolently and sweetly about family policy and the promotion of children. So far, a benevolent nod in the audience could be achieved so inexpensively. What this set costs and who should pay for it has been less discussed. But now that basic child security is on the agenda, one can no longer avoid the question: What does that mean in concrete terms? In the traffic light coalition, this is a battle that is being fought primarily between the FDP and the Greens. The Greens want to help poorer families with significantly more money, while Finance Minister Christian Lindner wants to reorganize and digitize the aid above all. More support for children? This is not a priority for the FDP leader.
