There was music in this episode of “Bares for Rares”. Horst Lichter was very enthusiastic about a compact system that was for sale. The traders were much more cautious.

When Horst Lichter enters the “Bares für Rares” studio, well-known film music sounds, which the moderator recognizes immediately. “Play me the song of death” by Ennio Morricone is spinning on the turntable.

But even more than the music, Lichter is enthusiastic about the device on which the single is played: an old compact system. “Should I tell you something: I think this system is fantastically beautiful,” says the moderator to Sven Deutschmanek, who is bending over it and inspecting the buttons. It brings back memories of Lichter’s youth, “when I bought my first compact system from my first salary as an apprentice”.

“Bares for Rares”: Little enthusiasm in the dealer room

It is a Telefunken compact system with hexagonal speakers. Without a cassette deck, but with a record player and radio. The married couple Christiane and Wolfgang Fischer from Northeim would like to sell it. The facility once belonged to her parents. They bought the part in 1970 and according to the expert it is still in good condition.

The couple would like to part with it for 200 euros, but Sven Deutschmanek thinks that is a bit too high: his estimate is between 100 and 150 euros.

The reserved expertise proves true in the dealer room. Wolfgang Pauritsch speaks of the renaissance of records. But Thorsden Schlößner is initially the only interested party with his starting bid of 50 euros. Several dealers aren’t even there: Steve Mandel plays in a band himself, but says he doesn’t buy anything that has a plug. Julian Schmitz-Avila also declines.

Luckily, Pauritsch pulls himself together: he has no idea how to sell the system, but he offers 100 euros on the spur of the moment. He hits the lower estimate – the deal is made. Everyone is happy.
