What was in there? After the dealers have sniffed a seemingly worthless bottle at “Bares für Rares”, they compete with each other in a mad bidding war.

Horst Lichter is on the wrong boat: “That will probably be such a hip flask,” believes the moderator when he sees the small bottle in the studio. But that’s wrong.

Peter Hartmann brought it with him. The 80-year-old retired cabinet maker from Brühl reports that it comes from his family’s property. But what is in it?

Swen Deutschmanek reveals that perfume is not. The flacon comes from the Johann Maria Farina company, which is mainly associated with the famous Eau de Cologne. But they also made other liquids. For example a mosquito repellent called Ki-Ta. That was created in the 1950s, the smallest bottle cost 1 Mark 20 back then, explains the expert. However, he does not give the seller any hope of a large profit: “We are not talking about a great value here.”

“Bares for Rares”: Sven Deutschmanek is not convinced

He would like to have 30 euros for the property. But even this amount seems to be too high for Deutschmanek: “15 to 20 euros, you can get that for it. But much more? It will be really difficult.”

Even in the dealer room, the vial is initially mistaken for a hip flask. Nevertheless, it arouses interest: Everyone smelled it, reports Christian Vechtel. And apparently the smell clouded the brains of those present.

Because for this almost worthless object a bidding war is taking place. With her entry-level bid of 30 euros, Susanne Steiger doubles the estimated value. The price quickly increases to 50 euros.

With a touch of honesty, salesman Peter Hartmann admits that the expertise was only 15 to 20 euros. Probably to put a stop to the madness. However, that doesn’t stop traders from pushing the price higher.

“There is still something going on, I would say,” calls Esther Ollick with a loud laugh. And Susanne Steiger actually offers 60 euros. But Ollick adds and wins the bid for 70 euros. Salesman Peter Hartmann is more than satisfied: “I have a Carrera track at home and will buy a new Carrera car for it.”
