The twins Elke and Petra Laforce brought a rare brandy scales with them to “Bares für Rares”. It is met with astonishingly great interest in the dealership.

It is a real curiosity that Elke and Petra Laforce want to sell on “Bares für Rares”. What exactly it is – the twin sisters do not know exactly at first. And they don’t want a lot of money either: “It’s just in the drawer with us. If we can make someone happy with it, we would give it away.”

Detlev Kümmel provides clarification. According to the expert, it is a Cartier brandy scales from the 1920s, and explains how the part works: It measures the density of liquids. Not only Horst Lichter – the two twins also listen in amazement. “That means you didn’t even know what kind of device it was?” The moderator notes with surprise.

The two sisters come “from the Tuscany of Germany”, the Palatinate. They inherited the brandy scales from their mother. When it comes to their asking prices, Elke and Petra Laforce are moderate: they would like 50 euros. The expert Kümmel encourages them: 50 to 80 euros, according to the Lüdenscheider, are definitely possible. Especially since the original case is included.

“Bares for Rares”: amazement in the dealer room

In the dealer’s room, the object initially met with astonishment: “Although I come from the Rheingau, I’ve never seen it here,” says David Suppes while examining the scales.

Wolfgang Pauritsch makes the “Waldi” and opens the round of bidders with 80 euros – so it starts with the upper end of the estimated value. Not a bad start for the two twin sisters.

Almost everyone in the group is placing bids, and the price will soon be 200 euros. That is still not the end of the story: In the end, David Suppes won the bid for 250 euros – and pays more than three times the estimated value. And even five times the desired price. Not a bad deal for Elke and Petra Laforce.

They shine afterwards like honey cake horses: “That we get such a high price, I would never have thought of it”, the twins are happy. “We can’t get the grin off our faces anymore.”
