Banksy mural sold – culture – Archysport

A Banksy mural has disappeared from the east English seaside town of Lowestoft. The picture showed a child with a sun hat and a sand shovel. It is believed to have since been sold to a collector.

When Banksy spray-painted the mural on the house wall over some loosened floor tiles last summer, it looked as if the child had uncovered a pile of sand under the pavement. In all, Banksy’s so-called “Great British Spraycation” gave the run-down holiday resorts on the British east coast ten such works, including demonstrating hermit crabs and dancing couples. In the title he combines the English word for spray (to spray) with the expression “staycation”: vacation, home. Banksy said he wanted to create attractions for British tourists and enhance the region at a time when travel abroad was not allowed due to the corona pandemic.

But the owner of the building, who runs the electronics store on the ground floor, had the wall knocked down in November and has since sold the work of art, as is now the case with the British art journal Artnewspaper reported. Mayor Nasima Begum calls the loss “a disgrace” in the article. The Banksy works distributed over places like Great Yarmouth, Cromer and Lowestoft would have attracted many tourists.
