Bamberg: Discussion about constitutional quarter hour – Bavaria

The State Association for the Preservation of Local History has sparked a major debate with its proposal to introduce a so-called constitutional quarter hour to schools in Bavaria, in order to familiarize pupils with the Bavarian constitution and convey basic values. The CSU and the Free Voters have included the constitutional quarter hour in their coalition agreement, but the project has not yet been implemented. Initial trials are underway at some schools, and the exact form of the project is still being discussed.

Discussions are also taking place at the idea generator; at the beginning of the year, the regional association held an event on the topic, with, among others, Ursula Münch, the director of the Academy for Political Education in Tutzing, and the President of the Constitutional Court, Hans-Joachim Heßler.

Now the Heritage Conservation Association is inviting people to another discussion round on the Constitutional Quarter Hour on June 3rd at 6 p.m. in the Hall of Mirrors of the Harmonie Halls in Bamberg. Under the leadership of the regional association’s managing director Rudolf Neumaier, the idea of the Constitutional Quarter Hour and the constitution in general will be discussed. Participants will be the Upper Franconian district heritage conservationist and historian Günter Dippold, the poet and director of the International Artists’ House Villa Concordia Nora Gomringer, Katja Auer, the director of the Bavaria editorial office of the Süddeutsche Zeitung, and Markus Knebel, the director of the Bamberg ETA Hoffmann Gymnasium. The Bamberg rapper Jonas Ochs will “celebrate the constitution with hip hop,” as the state association announced.

Admission is free, but please register with the State Association for Local Heritage by sending an email to [email protected].
