December 2022, one day before Christmas. The Bavarian State Ballet premieres Alexei Ratmansky’s “Tchaikovsky Overtures”. It’s a hilarious piece. Contemporary, but at the same time full of technically demanding classical passages. As if the virtuosity of the classics had been taken a step further. As if you were looking for what a dancer’s body could achieve. The then 19-year-old Portuguese dancer António Casalinho accepted this challenge. He dances a solo. Technical excellence. The audience catches their breath. And at the same time, great joy flows from the stage. Fun. pleasure in movement.
