Threats, arson, property damage – there have been attacks on vaccination centers in all federal states except Hamburg. There were particularly many criminal offenses in Saxony and Bavaria.
Since vaccinations against the coronavirus began, there have been attacks against vaccination centers or disruptions to vaccination campaigns in almost all federal states, especially in Bavaria and Saxony. As a survey by the Evangelical Press Service (epd) among the ministries, state criminal investigation offices and an association of statutory health insurance physicians showed, it was mostly damage to property, especially graffiti. But there were also threats, insults, physical attacks and arson in Saxony.
Appeal for murder against teacher
Attacks against vaccination centers are not recorded uniformly. According to the survey, there were at least 190 police-relevant cases nationwide that are related to corona vaccinations. Hamburg, on the other hand, reported that nothing “serious” was known in connection with attacks against the central vaccination center in the exhibition halls or mobile vaccination campaigns.
In Schleswig-Holstein there were two threats against school staff in connection with vaccination campaigns, which are currently being investigated by the public prosecutor: a threat of violence against the teachers of a community school in Niebüll and a murder call in a telegram chat group against the school management and teachers at the elementary school in Altenholz near Kiel. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, interferers of a vaccination campaign in a community center loudly demanded, according to the Interior Ministry, not to be vaccinated. They left the house after the police were alerted, it said.
Bavaria and Saxony sad front runners
During the nationwide vaccination week from September 13 to 19, there were also disruptions to vaccination campaigns in several federal states. In Bavaria and Hesse, vaccination offers at schools were disrupted. According to the Ministry of the Interior there, there have been 56 crimes in connection with vaccination centers in Bavaria since December 2020, and 54 in Saxony this year alone.
All federal states primarily report property damage. In Saarland, for example, the word “poison center” was made from the lettering “vaccination center”. It was the only case there, however. Bremen also only registered one case. The two countries lead in the quota of corona vaccinations administered so far.
