The Foreign Minister is visiting her counterpart in Dublin, but she cannot fly to London because of ice and snow. Her trip is about Europe’s relationship with the United Kingdom, which has become even more complicated after Brexit – and the hope for an improvement soon.

Shortly after 4 p.m., Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock’s Luftwaffe Airbus is finally on the runway at Dublin Airport. At that time she was supposed to have appeared before the press at Lancaster House in London with her British colleague James Cleverly. But snow fell in Ireland on Friday night, the first massive onset of winter since 2018. The runway is covered with a layer of ice, the wings are covered with snow. The machine stands on the apron for four and a half hours until a vehicle is ready to de-ice and it can take off towards London. The government airline is no better off than many commercial flights.
