After an accident in Nürtingen with two dead women, the police are investigating: How could it happen that a car could crash into waiting pedestrians at a traffic light without braking?

They had been waiting for the green signal when the An accident happened: After the death of two women at a pedestrian crossing, the police are working hard to find out the cause of the accident. It has not yet been conclusively determined how the accident in Nürtingen near Stuttgart could have happened, said a police spokesman. A 16-year-old youth has been in hospital with serious injuries since Sunday evening. There is currently no information on how the boy is doing.

According to police, a 54-year-old driver drove into the traffic light pole on Sunday evening without braking. A 28-year-old was so badly injured by the impact that she died at the scene of the accident. A 27-year-old was flown to a hospital by rescue helicopter, where she died of her injuries shortly afterwards. The 16-year-old suffered serious injuries from the impact. The driver was slightly injured.

The public prosecutor’s office ordered an expert to help with the investigation, it said. The car was confiscated. The 54-year-old is now being investigated for the fatal traffic accident. In total, more than 50 emergency services were on site.
