After a fatal accident in Nürtingen, the police are investigating: How could it happen that a car crashed into waiting pedestrians at a traffic light without braking?

After the serious car accident at a traffic light in Nürtingen near Stuttgart with two dead pedestrians, the Police are working hard to find the cause. “We have no indications of a deliberate occurrence or intentional action,” said a police spokesman on Monday. They assume it was an accident. However, it has not yet been conclusively determined how it could have happened. The vehicle of the 54-year-old driver who caused the accident crashed into a house wall without braking after the collision.

A 16-year-old youth has been in hospital since Sunday evening with serious injuries. According to the police, his life is not in danger. The person who caused the accident was also taken to hospital on Sunday with serious injuries. He is being investigated for the fatal traffic accident.

Search for witnesses

According to police, the 54-year-old drove his vehicle towards the traffic light pole on Sunday evening without braking, where the car hit three people. A 28-year-old was so badly injured by the impact that she died at the scene of the accident. A 27-year-old was flown to a hospital by rescue helicopter, where she died of her serious injuries shortly afterwards. The 16-year-old suffered serious injuries from the impact. It was not yet clear how many people were in the area of ​​the traffic light at the time of the accident. The police are looking for witnesses.

The public prosecutor’s office ordered an expert to help with the investigation, it said. The car was confiscated. In total, more than 50 emergency services were on site on Sunday evening.
