Bad weather: seven departments on orange alert for snow and ice, two for floods

This Thursday, nine departments are placed on orange vigilance by Météo France. Seven departments in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region are placed on orange alert for snow and ice, announcement Météo France in its latest bulletin. Two departments are also placed on orange alert for flooding.

Traffic conditions on the roads remain difficult in the departments affected by snow this Thursday morning.

Departments on orange alert

THE seven departments on orange alert for snow and ice are: Cantal, Isère, Loire, Haute-Loire, Puy-de-Dôme, Savoie and Haute-Savoie. In detail, the first five departments will be on orange alert from 4 p.m. Vigilance for the two Savoyard departments will begin from 6 p.m.

The two departments of Normandy placed on orange flood alert from this Thursday midnight are Calvados and Orne.

Up to 15 cm of snow in the North

Since the start of the snowfall, we note 2 to 5 cm in Normandy, locally up to more than 10 cm in Upper Normandy. In the Hauts-de-France departments, Météo France recorded 5 to 10 cm, with points at 15 cm in the North. In the Paris region, the snow cover was approximately 1 to 4 cm.

More snow and freezing rain this Thursday

Météo France notes that snow continues to fall this Thursday in the north-eastern quarter of the country, with locally some freezing rain at the interface between rain and snow. In the afternoon and evening, with the progression of cold air towards the south, snow will fall at low altitude in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

We expect 5 to 10 cm around 400-600 m altitude in the south of Puy-de-Dôme and the Loire, the east of Cantal, and generally in Haute-Loire, as well as in the Cold Lands in Isère, and locally a little more than 10 cm beyond 600 m. A few centimeters are possible at lower altitude, depending on the organization.
