Azerbaijani soldier killed on border with Armenia

An Azerbaijani soldier was killed on Saturday by a sniper from the positions of the Armenian armed forces on the border between the two countries, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said in a statement.

“The soldier was killed in the afternoon” on the territory of Azerbaijan (…) “from the village of Zerkend in Armenia” and “units of the Azerbaijani armed forces are taking retaliatory measures,” he said. -he adds.

Armenia denies

For its part, Armenia denied any involvement, its Defense Ministry affirming on Telegram that this “statement” according to which “Armenian units opened fire on Azerbaijani positions” (…) “does not correspond to reality “.

After Baku’s lightning victory last week and the capitulation of the Armenian separatists of Nagorno Karabakh, the enclave on Thursday decreed the historic dissolution, on January 1, of all its institutions.

In total, nearly 600 deaths have been reported in the wake of Baku’s military offensive. The fighting itself killed around 200 soldiers on each side.

The separatist republic of Nagorno Karabakh was almost entirely deserted on Saturday by its inhabitants, who left en masse for Armenia for fear of reprisals from Azerbaijan.
