Those who value a relaxed and family atmosphere at festivals will tend to stay away from the big events like Rock im Park or Southside. There are enough cozy and small festivals where music fans also get their money’s worth. With these insider tips you can avoid the big crowds:

Outdoor Festival

The Freiland Festival not only has music to offer, but also inspires with special performances, installations, film, theater and readings. From June 2nd to 5th, fans will be celebrating in the Kieskuhle Broock in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Summertime Festival

The Summertime Festival invites you to the tranquil town of Wolfenbüttel in Lower Saxony and has something for every taste in music. If you like it family and cozy, you will get your money’s worth in the Seeliger Park under the old trees. The festival takes place on June 9th and 10th.

Sea Rush Festival

Those who love the sea will look forward to the sea noise festival. The beauty of art meets the diversity of music at the festival. On the island of Usedom on the Baltic Sea, the Meeresrausch invites you to relax and enjoy breathtaking sunsets from June 15th to 18th.

Park festival

The Zuparken Festival makes the hearts of surf and Bulli fans beat faster. From June 15th to 18th, the event – in 2023 for the 17th and last time – offers various workshops from surfing to yoga, camping in the countryside and lots of music right on the Baltic Sea beach. The festival takes place at Kägsdorfer Strand near Rostock.

Maifeld Derby

More than 60 artists from all over the world perform at the Maifeld Derby in Mannheim. Punk, rap, hits – there is something for every music fan. Around 5,000 fans are traditionally expected at the Mannheim Maimarkt grounds. The festival takes place from June 16th to 18th this year.

Watt and mud

This year’s Watt en Schlick Festival takes place from July 28th to 30th in Varel on the North Sea in Lower Saxony. Three days of exciting culture on five stages, lasting exchange and relaxed togetherness await. At the end of the festival, the German championship in mud sliding is traditionally held.

Sound of the Forest

The Sound of the Forest will take place in 2023 from August 3rd to 6th. The sustainable festival presents indie artists and newcomers at the Marbachstausee in the Hessian Odenwald and expects around 5,000 fans. “Anyone who knows the Shire from ‘Lord of the Rings’ will be able to imagine what it looks like here,” the organizers describe the venue.

Rock on the Brocken

Rocken am Brocken takes place from August 3rd to 5th. In Elend, a district of the town of Oberharz am Brocken, visitors are awaited under the motto “Nature. Music. Friendship”. They can not only listen to the music, but also go on an acoustic, ranger-led hike in the forest (acoustic path) as part of the supporting program or take part in the traditional football and volleyball tournament in the adjacent outdoor pool.

City, Country, Bass

On August 5th and 6th, the Stadt, Land, Bass festival will take place in Frankfurt am Main directly on the river. Fans of electronic music get beats on several floors.

Wild Carrot Festival

The Wilde Möhre Festival in Drebkau near Cottbus celebrates its tenth birthday in 2023. From August 11th to 14th, visitors can look forward to meditations, yoga, mindfulness exercises, lectures and electronic music. In addition to DJs, the organizers promise “handpicked bands and live acts”. From August 18th to 21st there will also be a masked ball with performances from the fields of theatre, dance and burlesque.
