An Italian woman appears with golden breasts, a “Tatort” star comes out as gay and a prize is dedicated to the talk show guest Karl Lauterbach: That was the “GQ” Men-of-the-Year Awards 2021.

The “Men of the Year” awards are also increasingly changing between the sexes: At the “Men of the Year” gala by the style magazine “GQ”, several women were also praised this time – and of course they have the more colorful one on a festive evening Cloakroom to offer.

A man whom millions have known from the Saar Sunday crime story since 2020 also received special attention. The «Tatort» actor Vladimir Burlakov used the red carpet for a discreet coming-out. The 34-year-old had his friend by the hand for the first time in front of cameras and media representatives, posed with him and openly confirmed his love luck.

Breastplate and frilled flowers

Meanwhile, “Woman of the Year” Chiara Ferragni shone with a corset top, a kind of golden breastplate. The Italian entrepreneur with more than 25 million followers on Instagram is one of the most successful influencers in the world. She also likes to use her reach for political statements.

The 19-year-old powerful-voiced songwriter Zoe Wees (“Control”), who comes from Hamburg and got off to a flying start during the Corona period, received a newcomer award.

Model “icon” Karolina Kurkova appeared in bright red with ruffles on her shoulder at the event, which this time took place as a gala dinner in an indoor restaurant in Berlin-Mitte and not, as in previous years, as a big show and party in the Komische Opera. No 1000 guests were invited, but only about 180 vaccinated or convalescent (2G rule).

Marteria, Haaland and Lanz honored

The winners included the rapper Marteria and – in absentia – the actor Tom Wlaschiha, who is currently filming in Prague, the French film star Omar Sy (“Lupine”) and BVB striker Erling Haaland. The 21-year-old footballer has to take a few weeks off with an injury to his hip flexor.

The “Journalist of the Year”, Markus Lanz, did not come to Berlin either. The magazine justified the honor of the 52-year-old with the words: “From the blind spot of the ZDF late-night program, Markus Lanz has developed into the most important political talker in the country.”

The talk show host joked about the award in his video acceptance speech: “I don’t deserve it and I still accept it – and of course I dedicate it to Karl Lauterbach. That is actually its price. ” The physician and SPD health expert Lauterbach seems to appear constantly at Lanz. In 2020 alone he was a guest on the show 17 times.

Award for podcast duo

Felix Lobrecht was named “Comedian of the Year”. Together with Tommi Schmitt, the 32-year-old runs what is currently Germany’s most successful podcast: “Mixed Hack”. Just this week it was announced that the duo had extended their collaboration with the audio streaming service Spotify, which began in 2019, until 2024.

Lobrecht said: “To be honest, I don’t know exactly what I’m getting the prize for, that’s why I find it difficult to thank anyone because I don’t know what for. But who I definitely have to thank is a man without whom I wouldn’t be here tonight: namely my shuttle driver Mirko. “

The “Men of the Year” awards from “GQ” are awarded in some countries. The German edition of the US-based lifestyle magazine has been around since the end of the 90s. In 2021, the frequency of the previous monthly magazine was changed to four times a year. This means that the publication and the original magazine name “Gentlemen’s Quarterly” match better than before.
