“Avengers” villain returns
James Spader to star in Marvel series
Marvel has convinced James Spader to return for the upcoming Vision series. He will once again lend his voice to the character Ultron.
Marvel Studios is continuing a recent trend of bringing back actors and characters from the franchise’s past and, more broadly, from previous Marvel films. After former Captain America actor Chris Evans (43) and a number of Marvel heroes from the past were seen in “Deadpool & Wolverine”, and Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. (59) will play Doctor Doom in the MCU in the future, the big villain from “Avengers: Age of Ultron” is now also set to return: James Spader (“The Blacklist”, 64) will once again take over the voice of the artificial intelligence Ultron in the MCU. as the Hollywood Reporter reports.
Vision series brings back “Avengers” villains
An as yet untitled series about the android Vision is expected to appear on Disney+ in 2026. This is the second spin-off of the successful series “WandaVision” – after the show “Agatha All Along” with Kathryn Hahn (51) in the leading role, which can be seen from September 19th.
In the series, Vision, who was given a second existence as the so-called White Vision in “WandaVision”, will search for a new purpose in life. Ultron was the villain of the second “Avengers” film from 2015. The dangerous artificial intelligence, created by Tony Stark (Downey Jr.), was originally supposed to defend the world and make it safer, but turned against humanity and was finally defeated by the Avengers at the end of the film.
It remains to be seen what role Ultron will play in the Vision series. However, Android Vision also gained consciousness for the first time in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and ultimately helped defeat Ultron, who had previously created his synthetic body in the first place. There is therefore a connection between the two Marvel characters.
According to information from the “Hollywood Reporter,” the Vision series could be filmed in England early next year. Terry Matalas (48), who already conceived the acclaimed third season of “Star Trek: Picard,” will act as showrunner for the project.
