This year, it should be clear who will run the museum after the turbulence surrounding the Museum of Military History. It’s not the only vacant position that needs to be filled at Vienna’s museums.

Personnel changes are pending at important museums in Vienna. The decision to appoint a new director of the Museum of Military History (HGM) in Vienna is expected to be made before the end of this year. For the last two years, this house has only been managed by Christian Ortner on an interim basis. After harsh criticism from the Federal Audit Office and a scientific evaluation of the content, which revealed massive deficiencies, the post was re-advertised. The application period ended in the summer, hearings took place, and six candidates were deemed “suitable”. Finally, the Defense Minister responsible for this museum, Klaudia Tanner (ÖVP), was presented with a three-person proposal for the replacement.
