What many opponents of the traffic light coalition in Germany wish for could quickly become reality in Austria: the end of the coalition. The Green Environment Minister Leonore Gewessler’s yes to the EU Renaturation Act, against the will of the ÖVP, has led to unusually strong reactions from the larger governing party. On Monday, its general secretary seriously reported the Greens for abuse of office, and the party also threatened to bring a so-called ministerial indictment through parliament before the Constitutional Court. And then Chancellor Karl Nehammer also announced that he would take the Green partner’s voting behavior to the European Court of Justice.
