On Saturday things will get serious for the Australian tennis pros in the women’s and men’s doubles final.
The world number one Ashleigh Barty meets the American Danielle Collins (No. 27). It could be Barty’s first Grand Slam title in Melbourne. So far she has won at the French Open and Wimbledon.
In men’s doubles, the Australia Festival could continue. Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis, who entered Melbourne with a wildcard, will play against their compatriots Max Purcell and Matthew Ebden.

“Most emotional match of the tournament!” Tsitsipas strikes back
10:03 a.m. Barty-Collins 3-2
Another fast serve from Collins follows, but then Barty has to go over deuce after a forehand error. She pulls the longline out of the halffield and Collins has her first break ball. Barty fends that off with a very clever forehand winner. With an ace, she still converts to 3:2.
9:53 a.m. Barty-Collins 2-1
Collins also has little difficulty in her first service game. It’s 1:1. Another squeaky clean service from Barty follows, including several aces. With a service winner, the favorite turns the game ball to 2:1.
9:48 a.m. Barty 1 Collins 0
It starts with serve Barty. The Australian quickly leads 40-0, but Collins comes close thanks in part to a strong longline on the return. With a service winner, Barty still gets the point to 1:0.

Barty remains number one in the world regardless of the outcome of the final. At Collins, too, the new position in the ranking is already certain, no matter how the final ends. The American will move up into the top ten in tenth place.
Match point and frosty handshake: Medvedev in the final

INFO – Barty-Collins
Breaks a black streak? The last time an Australian won the singles title in Melbourne was in 1977. Ashleigh Barty can change that today. The world number one is the favorite in the final against Danielle Collins. But the American shouldn’t be underestimated and has particularly impressed with her fighting spirit in the last two weeks.
