Shocking moment in the church in Sydney: In the middle of the service, a man attacks a priest and believers. A video captures the attack.

In the Australian metropolis Sydney has suffered another stabbing attack with several people injured. A man has been arrested, the New South Wales Police announced on the platform X (formerly Twitter).

According to media reports, one victim of the attack in the western suburb of Wakeley was a priest from the local Assyrian community who held a mass in the church earlier in the evening. Footage published on the Internet, said to be from the live broadcast of the service, showed a man approaching the priest during mass and hitting him before those present rushed up to intervene. It was not clear what object he used for this.

Nobody suffered life-threatening injuries

According to rescue workers, a man in his mid-50s was taken to hospital with stab wounds. Three other people with wounds on their arms and hands were being treated on site, the ABC broadcaster reported. Nobody suffered life-threatening injuries.

The emergency services called on residents to avoid the area. The ABC broadcaster reported chaotic scenes that took place in front of the church, where there were rescue workers and police as well as a large crowd.

Just on Saturday, a mentally ill man stabbed visitors with a knife in a busy shopping center in Sydney’s east, killing six people.
