The lions are loose. In a zoo in Sydney there is a riot for a short time. An adult lion and four cubs go on an excursion.

Five lions who briefly escaped from their enclosure caused an uproar in a zoo in the Australian metropolis of Sydney. The “emergency situation” arose on Wednesday morning, and nobody was injured, the Taronga Zoo said.

An adult lion and four cubs were found a short time later in a small area next to their enclosure, which is separated from the rest of the zoo by a fence. An investigation should now clarify how this could have happened.

Four of the lions returned calmly to the facility. A young animal is now “awake and well” after being stunned. The zoo says it has strict security protocols for such incidents. All people on site were taken to safe areas. The zoo staff acted quickly, so the situation was under control within minutes. The zoo remained open, but the lion enclosure should not be accessible to visitors for the duration of the investigation.
