The French winner has since been disqualified, and now the German Athletics Association also sees Gesa Krause as second place in the 3000 meter steeplechase.

The German Athletics Association also sees obstacle runner Gesa Krause came second in the European Championships in Rome after a brief period of uncertainty. Previously, on Sunday evening, winner Alice Finot from France was disqualified after the 3000 metres for repeatedly stepping on the track barrier after the water jump.

Krause then appeared as the winner in the official results, but the French association successfully protested against this. Shortly before midnight, Finot was announced as the winner in the stadium. The German association also confirmed this in its report on the race in the Olympic Stadium.

At 0.25 a.m. on Monday night, the French association announced Finot as the winner of the race after the nerve-wracking twists and turns on platform X. The 33-year-old was also back at the top of the European Athletics Federation’s winners list at this time.

She won after 9:16.22 minutes ahead of two-time European champion Krause. The 31-year-old came in second after 9:18.06 minutes and thus won the medal she had been hoping for on her comeback after the birth of her daughter. The award ceremony, which was originally planned for Sunday evening, was canceled due to the lack of clarity.
