She wants to preserve her health. Criticized on social networks for refusing to call for a vote for Kamala Harris against Donald Trump in the US presidential election, pop star Chappell Roan said on Friday that she was canceling two concerts this weekend.
“I apologize to those who were waiting to see me” in New York and Columbia on Saturday and Sunday at the “All Things Go” festival, but I am unable to go on stage,” the American artist wrote on Instagram.
“I feel overwhelmed by everything that has happened in recent weeks. I feel under pressure to prioritize a lot of things, and I need a few days to put my health first,” she added.
The openly queer “Pink Pony Club” singer recently found herself at the center of controversy for refusing to call for a vote for Kamala Harris against Donald Trump in the US presidential election in November.
She ended up declaring in a video on Wednesday, in an exasperated tone, that she would vote for the Democratic candidate while reaffirming her disappointment with the Democratic Party on issues of defending the rights of LGBT+ people, the Palestinian people, and “any marginalized community in the world”.
It all started with a recent interview in the British daily The Guardian, in which she said she was free to “support no one”.
Strongly criticized on social networks and accused of playing into Donald Trump’s hands by not calling on young people to vote, she had already explained that her tendency to “question authority and leaders” did not mean support for Republican candidate, a real scarecrow for American progressives.
Chappell Roan had already turned down an invitation earlier this year to perform at the White House for a Pride Month event to challenge US support for Israel in its war in Gaza.
Kamala Harris’ campaign team has repeatedly covered songs from Chappell Roan to accompany videos of the candidate on social networks.
