ASVEL mate Dijon and offer itself a 20th title of champion of France

The day after Stade Toulousain’s Top 14 victory, already crowned in the European Cup, another team scored twice on Saturday. ASVEL basketball players won the French championship to the detriment of Dijon (87-74), this Saturday in Rouen. This is their 20th national title.

Favorites, although diminished in particular by the absences of their international tricolors who left to prepare for the Olympics, TJ Parker’s men took the upper hand in the second quarter (44-33 at the break). They managed to win, after their victory in the Coupe de France this year against the same JDA Dijon.

Eager to win a first league title before the departure of their coach Laurent Legname, the Dijonnais, first in the regular season, seemed overwhelmed after the first quarter against the Asvel machine, like Axel Julien ( 9 points) or David Holston (5 points), much less decisive than usual. On the other side, David Lighty (21 points) was crowned man of the match.

As in 2019

This is the second straight double of the Rhone, after that of 2019: the titles of champion and winner of the Coupe de France had not been awarded in 2020, because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
