Asus: Gaming graphics card with no visible power connections

The Taiwanese component manufacturer Asus is showing prototypes of a gaming graphics card without visible power connections at the Computex IT trade fair. Instead, the GeForce RTX 4070 draws its energy from the mainboard. For this, Asus equips it with an additional contact strip behind the PEG connector. This transmits up to 600 watts and thus as much as the 12VHPWR connection of current high-end graphics cards.

The rear contacts are used to power the graphics card. As usual, the data runs via PCI Express x16.

The matching LGA1700 motherboard for 12th and 13th generation Core i processors uses the non-standard DIY APE format. It corresponds to the ATX standard in terms of dimensions, but the connections for power, SATA, fans, etc. are on the back of the board. This also includes a 12VHPWR and three 8-pin PEG sockets that route power from the power supply to the graphics card power connector on the front panel. The rear connections are intended to enable desktop PCs with glass windows, where not a single cable is visible from the outside. Instead, these run invisibly on the back of the mainboard carrier.
