Association president gives update on Kylian Mbappé

Philippe Diallo, the president of the French Football Federation (FFF), gave the all-clear on Kylian Mbappé’s injury at a press conference in Paderborn on Tuesday afternoon. The head of the French Football Federation appeared reassured and ruled out an operation for the time being, which could have had serious consequences, as was reported the day before by people close to the Bleus.

“You saw him, he had this injury on his nose, the news is rather reassuring,” explained Diallo. He cannot yet give an exact date for his return, and it is still unclear whether he will be able to play against the Netherlands on Friday.

Mbappé suffered a broken nose during the 1-0 win against Austria. The French association confirmed the injury on Tuesday night after an examination at the University Hospital in Düsseldorf.

European Championship today: These games are coming up

Group F: Türkiye – Georgia (6pm)

“We will have the feeling of being at home,” said Turkey star Hakan Çalhanoğlu ahead of the group opener. For Salih Özcan, this counts twice as much, as the match will take place in the Dortmund stadium – exactly where he usually plays with BVB. For Georgia, however, it will be their first participation in a major tournament.

Cristiano Ronaldo already holds the record for the most European Championship matches played (25) and is also at the top for the most goals scored (14). The attacker would set another record with his next goal: he would be the oldest goalscorer in European Championship history.

Curious accident: Füllkrug “shoots” DFB fan into hospital

Painful mistake: National striker Niclas Füllkrug involuntarily “shot” a German football fan into hospital before the opening match of the European Championship against Scotland. According to a report in “Bild”, Kai Flathmann from Bremerhaven was warming up and was sitting in the first row behind the German goal when a ball hit him on the left hand after a shot by the Borussia Dortmund striker.

“I sang along to the anthem on the stretcher. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry: I had to give up my dream of playing in the opening match. But when do you ever get your hand broken by fullness,” said the 43-year-old. He had followed the DFB selection’s exhilarating 5:1 victory in Munich on his cell phone in the hospital.

According to “Bild”, Füllkrug knows about the incident and is sorry for the mistake. He wanted to send Flathmann an apology package with a jersey and a greeting message.

For the safety of all fans, the coordination committee therefore decided to close the fan zones.
