More than seven months after the killing of a student in Aschau, Upper Bavaria, a walker discovered the young woman’s mobile phone in a river. The cell phone is currently being evaluated for traces, the police said on Friday. But this will take a few more weeks. The public prosecutor had recently brought charges of murdering the student against a man who was between 18 and 21 years old at the time of the crime. At first, the police wanted him as a witness. He was arrested in mid-November 2022 and has been in custody since then.
The cell phone, now covered with algae, found by a walker in the Prien riverbed on Whitsunday is “an important piece of evidence,” said a police spokesman on Friday. “It is quite conceivable that data relevant to the process will be found on it.” The district court in Traunstein has to decide whether there will be a main trial after the indictment.
