Application: How important is the job reference? – Career

Nowhere else are job references taken so seriously as in Germany. These are often stand formulations and empty phrases that not everyone understands in the same way. But there are better alternatives.

This has never happened before with “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?”. The candidate Dagmar Gumnior hands Günther Jauch a job reference. “Sounds good,” said the quiz master and reads out: “His behavior towards colleagues and superiors is exemplary.” But HR expert Gumnior explains the correct reading to him: “You have a huge problem with your superiors. Otherwise they would come first.” The final formula of the certificate also has its pitfalls. Jauch is wished “all the best”, but not “continued success”. In the show at the beginning of May, Gumnior explains why the word success is missing: “You apparently didn’t have that, that’s why it is left out.”
