Apple has invited to its first event of the still young year of technology. The invitation promises so much performance. But the real star could be the new savings iPhone.

Despite the current global political events, Apple has decided to invite you to its traditional spring event. Under the motto “Peek Performance” – translated on the German invitation as “Our idea of performance” – the group will be presenting its latest products next Tuesday.

As with the last events, the stage will only be seated virtually this time. Unlike in the pre-Corona times, Apple is not inviting people to their home country of Cupertino. Instead, CEO Tim Cook and his team will present the innovations in a virtual keynote.

What will Apple show?

Given the event motto, at least some of the rumors from the last few months should be true. Time and again it was said from those around the company that a successor to the already very powerful M1 chip was being planned. The first notebooks with the chip are now almost 1.5 years old, so an update for Macbook Air, Macbook Pro and Mac Mini could be pending.

The stars of the evening should be other devices – namely iPhones and iPads. With the event, Apple is planning two big steps for its smartphones: On the one hand, the next generation of the iPhone SE economy model should take a big step towards the current top devices. For the first time, the SE should do without the home button and get a display that covers the entire front. It should also be the first iPhone SE to support the modern 5G standard. The handling of the old SE is almost even more revolutionary: It should remain in the portfolio – but be offered as the first iPhone at a new price of 200 dollars. This would mean that Apple would arrive in the real entry-level sector for the first time.

The iPad Air will probably have slightly less spectacular innovations. According to initial rumours, Apple initially planned an OLED screen for the new model, but this is said to have been discarded for technical reasons. At least the processor has a decent boost: With the A15, the iPad Air now also has the powerful chip of the iPhone 13 models.

Which of the rumors are true and all other information can be found on the evening of the event stern.de.
