After that, the headset, which has been hailed as the most important product launch since the iPhone, mainly faces problems with design complexity and production difficulties. The high-resolution screens in particular should be challenging. This makes mass production difficult.
Probably available from early 2024
According to “FT” information, Apple originally wanted to sell one million of the headsets in the first twelve months after the market launch. But apparently the tech giant is clearly missing its internal target. Now in 2024 it is expected to be less than 400,000. According to the “FT”, this is indicated by information from the Chinese company Luxshare, which assembles the glasses for Apple, and from two Chinese suppliers. Luxshare is said to be the sole manufacturer of the device.
Apple had already hinted that the “spatial computing” headset wouldn’t go on sale until “early next year,” a long way from its June 5 launch. Analysts had previously interpreted it as having more to do with supply chain issues than giving developers time to program apps. In addition, the schedule for a cheaper version of the glasses has now also been pushed back, according to the report.
Apple had presented the long-awaited “Vision Pro” a few weeks ago after seven years of development. The data glasses are used, among other things, to immerse oneself in virtual worlds. In addition, apps or objects can be projected into the surrounding space. The control should be done exclusively via eye movements, hands and voice. The device, which starts at $3,499, will probably be available in the US from early 2024.
