The public prosecutor’s office in Schweinfurt has appealed against Richard Graupner, member of the AfD state parliament. The acquittal for the former police officer is therefore not final. Graupner had to answer in court last week on charges of violation of official secrets. According to the public prosecutor’s office, as head of a department at the Schweinfurt police, where he worked until 2018, he passed on information from the internal police system to an acquaintance. Graupner denies the allegations. In the first instance, the district judge based his judgment on the principle “in case of doubt for the accused”. According to the judge, it was “possibly obvious” that Graupner was guilty of the acts he was accused of. In the circumstantial process, however, “residual doubts” remained. The public prosecutor points out that a written statement of reasons for the judgment is not yet available. Only then will it be decided whether the legal remedies will be withdrawn or maintained.
