According to a media release, Panini will not be releasing a scrapbook for the 2024 European Football Championship in Germany. The license was acquired from a US company.

The Panini collection albums enjoy a very special reputation. Many football fans grew up with them. Bundesliga, European or world championships, you could collect everything: player and team photos, club and state coats of arms, the silver and gold images of the trophies exuded a special magic. The Panini album became an integral part of being a fan, a kind of history book with simple portrait photos, a contemporary document of dubious hairstyles and absurd jerseys.

One of the unsurpassed treasures is the picture of the Rostock soccer player Mike Werner. No mullet has ever been more powerful and impressive. Internationally, the portraits of the Colombian keeper René Higuita and the Bulgarian Trifon Ivanov achieved worldwide fame.

The first German album came out for the 1978 World Cup in Argentina

Now there is sad news for Panini fans: there will be no more albums for the EM 2024, which will take place in Germany. Panini has been playing more in the Bundesliga since 2009. The US company Topps has acquired the EM license, as reported by the “Bild” newspaper. The New York company also has the rights to the Nations League and the 2025 Women’s European Championship, the report said. No one less than star coach José Mourinho should be responsible for the selection of the professionals who are given a place in the collections.

Panini’s first album was released for the 1970 World Cup in Italy. In Germany, you had to wait until the 1878 World Cup in Argentina before you could indulge your passion for collecting. The Bundesliga followed a year later. After the initial boom in the 1980s, Panini made a comeback for the 2006 World Cup in Germany. According to the company, Panini sold 800 million stickers in Germany alone.
