Former world champion
Antoine Griezmann ends his career in the French national team
After 137 international matches and 44 goals, it’s over: Antoine Griezmann says goodbye to the Équipe Tricolore. His last big game remains a bitter one.
The offensive player made his debut in March 2014 in a 2-0 win against the Netherlands. Four years later he became world champion with France in the final against Croatia (4:2). Griezmann also scored in the final in Moscow.

The left-footer played his last major international match at the beginning of July in a 2-1 defeat in Munich in the European Championship semi-finals against eventual European champions Spain. Griezmann came on as a substitute in the second half, but was unable to turn things around.
“After ten incredible years marked by challenges, successes and unforgettable moments, it is time for me to start a new chapter and make way for the next generation,” explained Griezmann. “Wearing this jersey was an honor and a privilege.”
His contract in Madrid runs until the summer of 2026. This week, national coach Didier Deschamps will announce the squad for the games in the Nations League.
