In the collective bargaining dispute with the municipal employers’ association, the trade union ver.di has called for an all-day warning strike in Bavarian local transport. Munich, Nuremberg and several other cities are affected.

Hardly any bus, no subway, no tram – the Verdi union is calling again for today Warning strike in local public transport in Bavaria on. Many cities in the Free State are affected. The wage conflict with the municipal employers’ association continues. The most important questions and answers can be found here.

Who is affected by the warning strike?

The all-day warning strike call applies to local transport for cities that still operate it themselves and not through a private provider. If at all, there is only an occasional bus. From the start of operations, the metropolitan areas of Munich and Nuremberg, the cities of Fürth, Bayreuth, Bamberg, Schweinfurt, Regensburg, Landshut, Passau and Augsburg will be affected by the warning strike.

In Augsburg, the otherwise all-day warning strike ends at 2 p.m. The transport company promises to do everything to counteract this. For safety reasons, the subways in Munich and Nuremberg have been shut down for the time being. How things continue throughout the day also depends on the willingness to go on strike. In Nuremberg, buses should run every half hour. According to the MVG, around half of the buses are on the road in the state capital, and they are from private companies that drive on behalf of the city.

In Bamberg and Schweinfurt, no public bus should roll all day long. In Bayreuth there is a strike schedule with a thinned out offer. The warning strike on Friday could not be the last – at least that’s what Verdi says. On the other hand, regional trains and the S-Bahn run. The employees there have a different collective agreement.

The employees in Passau should also stop working all day. The district of Lower Bavaria informed the Verdi union on Thursday afternoon. The trade union secretary responsible, Christoph Kittel, pointed out that from now on there could be more unannounced strikes.

Warning strike in Bavaria: What can passengers do?

If you’re lucky, you’ll catch one of the few buses running. Where possible, you can change to the S-Bahn or a regional train. Otherwise, the only way to get there is by bike or on foot. If you use the car, you have to expect more traffic jams. The bridging day, on which many take the day off, should ease the traffic situation in the municipalities somewhat.

A reason to be absent from work the warning strike is not – warn lawyers. The employee bears the so-called “travel risk”. He or she must ensure that they arrive at the workplace on time. If you don’t come on time, your employer could reduce your income accordingly or have you do additional work.

What is the tariff conflict about?

A separate collective agreement, the TV-N, applies to the approximately 7,000 employees in local public transport in Bavaria. The union not only wants to push through higher incomes in this wage round. In order to make jobs in local transport attractive again, Verdi is also demanding better working conditions.

These working conditions are laid down in what is known as the collective wage agreement, as are bonuses and working hours. Therefore, from Verdi’s point of view, this part of the collective bargaining agreement should expire at the end of the year for negotiations on this and not, as with income, only a year later.

The municipal employers’ association in Bavaria strictly rejects this. The union is only concerned with being able to use another warning strike as a means of pressure from January. Employers offer a degree equivalent to that in the public service with a duration of 24 months. A new hearing date is not officially known at least not yet.
