Annual press conference of the Goethe-Institut: Forward Defense – Culture

When the Secretary General of the Goethe Institute Johannes Ebert stepped up to the microphone in his Berlin branch for the annual press conference on Wednesday morning, he first tried to read the posters hanging there as mottos for what was about to be announced. The posters show quotes from productions at the Berlin Schaubühne. “Make way, dark clouds,” for example, was written there (from “Richard III.” by William Shakespeare). “There’s something with a smile back there too,” Ebert shouted, but unfortunately he couldn’t read the rest because of the camera lights. And maybe that was better that way. Because it said in full: “Just smile and switch to gear” (from “status quo” by Maja Zade).
