Annette Pehnt’s novel about the isolation of a woman leaving her family life behind culminates in a literary triumph.

A woman had her husband set up an apartment so that she could write there in peace. This is how the starting point of Annette Pehnt’s new novel “The Dirty Woman” could be summed up. But as I said, it is a novel by Annette Pehnt, whose poetology, which has now been tried and tested in a good dozen narrative texts, also consists of withdrawing the foundation from so-called certainties, better: not casting this foundation in the first place.
