When a couple from the USA wants to check in their suitcases for a flight to Vegas, it is too heavy. The reason: Chihuahua Icky was hiding in it.

Actually, it should only be a relaxed short trip for two. But before Kristi and Jared Owens could take their flight, a very special incident was waiting for them. While everyone else will work up a sweat if the suitcase is declared too heavy at the baggage check-in point, the Owens probably couldn’t have done better that day.

Annoying Fees? Luckily!

As usual, Kristi and Jared Owen wanted to drop off their suitcases at the counter for their flight from Texas International Airport to Las Vegas. But to their surprise, the Southwest airline’s employee Cathy Cook informed them that the suitcase was too heavy. You could either pay a fee or take some of the items out to accommodate the weight of the suitcase, the clerk said. Wanting to bypass the fee, the Owens decided to take out a few of their belongings. But when they opened the suitcase, a surprise was waiting for them.

Smuggled in: Icky the dog is sitting in the suitcase

To the great amazement of the couple, their Chihuahua Icky was sitting in one of Jared’s cowboy boots. “I wish there had been a picture of our faces when we opened the suitcase,” says Jared. “It was just surreal,” wonders Kristi, who asked herself: “Is this really happening here?” The couple said they were afraid that airport staff might think they had deliberately hid their dog in their suitcase.

How did the dog get in the suitcase?

The couple said they had a lot of hustle and bustle at home. “We have two children, three dogs, a rabbit and a lot of fish,” says Kristi. But how could the dog get into the suitcase undetected? Kristi packed her things in the suitcase the evening before the flight. In the morning Jared put his things in there, last of all his cowboy boots. Then Icky must have crawled into the shoes. “Icky has a habit of hiding,” said the couple. Even on the way to the airport, the little bitch did not make herself noticeable, on the contrary: “She made no sound,” says Kristi.

Just like that: Owens even get the flight

After the dog was found, the next question quickly arose: How does the dog get home? Fortunately, the airport staff helped the couple organize everything and a short time later Jared’s uncle picked the dog up from the airport to bring him back home. Then the Owens hurry up and even get their flight to Las Vegas.
