Germans love living with animals. In 2021, 47 percent of households in Germany had at least one pet – a total of 34.7 million dogs, guinea pigs or birds. There are also fish and terrarium animals. Cats are the most popular (16.7 million), according to a representative survey by the market research institute Skopos.
