Animal welfare: How a farmer fights for his cattle – economy

A species-appropriate meat production is possible, as the farm of Ernst Hermann Maier shows. The authorities forbade him to kill his cattle however he wanted – but then he had an idea.

In the midday heat, the cattle have laid down under the large roof in the shade. They doze off on thick straw mattresses and hardly take any notice of the curious visitors who look inside. Old cows with expansive, impressively curved horns that show: I am a person to be respected. Strong bulls, offspring of all ages and a newborn calf, somewhat secluded from a wall. Ernst Hermann Maier climbs into the stable with him, strokes it and looks after his mother.
