Four people and 27 puppies – the space on the small plane en route from Alabama to Florida was used to the full. That probably saved the dogs’ lives.

There wasn’t much space in the small plane that made its way from Florida to Alabama and back again. Animal rights activist Cassandra Bergeron and two of her supporters took the seats, dogs occupied the rest of the room. The plane was completely packed, as can be seen in a TikTok video that Bergeron uploaded.

The animal rights activists were able to fly out a total of 27 dogs and thus save them from death – the animals were actually supposed to be euthanized because the animal shelters in Alabama were overcrowded. Bergeron and her friends accompanied Michael Young, professor at the University of Central Florida and head of the Alabama Puppy Rescue Flights campaign. The organization says it transports puppies from the US state of Alabama to Florida, where they can be adopted. Young is also a pilot and piloted the plane.

“I was just blessed”

The mood on the 45-minute flight was great, not just with the dogs. “You loved it,” reported Bergeron. She herself also enjoyed the action to the full: “I was just blissful. I didn’t want to land anymore and couldn’t stop grinning the whole time.” The group had not taken any additional luggage in order to be able to take as many dogs as possible.

Bergeron and her friends were responsible for keeping the animals under control during the flight so that they would not disturb the pilot. Everyone behaved well, assures Bergeron. In Florida, the young dogs were unloaded and distributed to various animal shelters.

One is now in training to become a police dog. Everyone else was adopted too. In total, the Alabama Puppy Rescue Flights organization has saved more than 7,000 dogs according to its own information.
