Winston Churchill’s face was characterized by fleshy bulges in his old age. Photos of the beefy British politician cause some viewers’ brains to think of the image of a bulldog. Both dog and human look out of a massive face through small eyes, the corners of their mouth hanging: the resemblance of the Prime Minister to a bulldog is quite striking. In fact, Churchill was often portrayed as a dog of this breed in contemporary cartoons. He once owned a bulldog named Dodo, which the then young Churchill allegedly sold his bicycle to acquire. In short: Churchill and Dodo serve as a prominent, well-known example of the fact that dogs and owners are often similar.
