Controversy surrounding Kurt Zouma: Videos have appeared in which the West Ham defender torments cats.
West Ham United’s Kurt Zouma is embroiled in an animal abuse scandal. Video images of him tormenting a cat surfaced on social media Monday night.
The French defender can be seen in the videos picking up a cat, dropping it and volleying it out of the air in his kitchen. He also throws shoes at the cat and slaps it in the face while it is being held by a child.
As British media reports, the video comes from Zouma’s brother Yoan, who is said to have made it for Snapchat. The cameraman can be heard laughing on the video.
Zouma then commented on the pictures and emphasized that his cats are doing well. “I want to say how sorry I am to anyone who has been shocked by the video. I can assure you that our two cats are in excellent health. They are loved and cared for in our family, this behavior is about an isolated incident that will not be repeated,” the statement said.
West Ham United condemn Kurt Zouma’s cruelty to animals
West Ham United also commented on the incident and condemned his player’s actions: “West Ham United condemns the actions of our player in the video that has been circulated. We have spoken to Kurt and will resolve the matter internally, but we also want to clarify We do not condone cruelty to animals in any way.”
However, Zouma does not face criminal consequences. According to Sky Sports the Metropolitan Police in London will not launch an investigation into the incident.
