Andrea Pirlo allegedly coach candidate at Genoa FC

His first position as head coach at Juventus was not particularly successful. Nevertheless, Andrea Pirlo could return to Serie A soon.

Former Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo is apparently the top candidate for a possible successor to coach Davide Ballardini at the Italian first division club Genoa. That reports the Gazzetta dello Sport.

Accordingly, Ballardini should be fired with a high degree of probability if Genoa should not get at least four points in the next two Serie A games against Venice and Empoli. The traditional club is currently in relegation position 18 and has only collected seven points in ten games.

Andrea Pirlo apparently a top candidate for Genoa

According to the report, Genoa’s bosses are already thinking about a new appointment and Pirlo is apparently at the top of the list of candidates. The 42 year old who had to leave Juventus after last season and was replaced by Massimiliano Allegri, is currently looking for a new challenge.

Pirlo took over the coaching position at the Bianconeri in August 2020, under him, however, Juve only finished fourth after nine championships in a row. At least he led the team to win the cup and the super cup.

For the former Italian international, who ended his active career in early 2018, Juventus was the first station as head coach in the professional field. Before that, he briefly looked after the Turin U23s.
