Global hedge funds underperformed last year at their lowest since 2018. Measured against the HFRI 500 Fund Weighted Composite Index, the funds lost 4.25 percent in value, according to data from the analysis company Hedge Fund Research (HFR). The barometer shows the development of the largest hedge funds operating worldwide. Hedge fund managers made heavy losses, especially in stock and cryptocurrency transactions. These collect capital from professional investors such as insurance companies and pension funds and use it to bet on market trends, price differences between stock exchanges, mergers and macroeconomic trends.
