An illegal rave party brings together 6,000 partygoers in the scrubland north of Montpellier

Caravans, cars, motorhomes, heavy goods vehicles… Some 1,500 “vehicles of all kinds” landed on Saturday evening in the scrubland and on the steep paths of the town of Rapes-en-Laval, in Hérault, to join a rave party. “Nearly 6,000 people have gathered” since, in the middle of nature, on the spot, located about twenty kilometers north of Montpellier, announced the prefecture, specifying that “the massive arrival” of partygoers generated “significant traffic difficulties, on unsuitable terrain that is difficult to access”.

About fifty gendarmes are mobilized “to make traffic more fluid and secure the surroundings,” said the state services, which intended to carry out numerous checks.

An advanced medical post

The area is classified Natura 2000. “Faced with the risk of fire and the difficulties of access for emergency services, an awareness campaign for the organizers was carried out by the firefighters of SDIS 34 and the gendarmes”, also notes the prefecture. A medical station has been set up to provide first aid and risk prevention associations are present on site.

The Hérault is placed on yellow vigilance for thunderstorms this Monday with the risk of hail showers in the afternoon and evening.

In Isère, another undeclared rave party in the Roybon countryside gathered 1,500 people on Sunday morning, according to the prefecture of this department.
