Strong emotion among football fans in Sarthe. A footballer from the club of the commune of Mayet, south of Le Mans, died in the middle of a match on Sunday afternoon. The tragedy occurred around 4:30 p.m., in Coulongé, 25 km from La Flèche, in the south of the department.
The District Third Division game had started at 3 p.m. and, as the final whistle approached, a player from the Vigilant Football Mayet26, collapsed unconscious, reports Free Maine.
The emergency services intervened quickly, a defibrillator was used, but the young man could not be resuscitated. The cause of death is not known at this time.
