On the Internet, thousands with the hashtag #WirwollenKarl are calling for Karl Lauterbach to become Minister of Health in Olaf Scholz’s cabinet. The department goes to his party, the SPD. Now the politician has expressed himself.

KOn the evening after the announcement of the Ampelkoalition’s coalition agreement, arl Lauterbach expressed cautiously about his ambitions for the Federal Ministry of Health. On “RTL Direkt” said the doctor and health economist, who has made a name for himself as an SPD health expert like no other:

“I’ve been in this field for a long time so it would be a surprise if I didn’t want to do that on principle. But there are others who can do that, this is not about me ”.

During the election campaign, Lauterbach had formulated his claims to the ministry more aggressively. Basically, Lauterbach rates it positively that the ministry has gone to the SPD: “We are a social democratic party, that’s an important area for us.”

The health expert is known for countless talk show appearances, but is also appreciated for his detailed knowledge. He won his constituency in Cologne at the Bundestag election with a clear victory with 45.6 percent of the first votes. As a result, he moved into the Bundestag again, despite a lower position on the list.

The new Federal Chancellor-designate, Olaf Scholz, renewed his promise on Wednesday evening that a cabinet would be made up of equal numbers of women and men. In the ARD “Brennpunkt”, the SPD politician said, when asked whether he stood by this promise: “I will stick to my words”. Karl Lauterbach is a man. He comes from North Rhine-Westphalia. Nothing is known about migrant roots.
